New Spider-Man Trailer Not Very Amazing!

It is probably not a coincidence that the trailer for the upcoming overhauled Spider-Man movie was released a few days before Comic-Con this year, but if Columbia Pictures intended to create positive buzz for the film with the timely release of the preview, the studio seems to have fallen short of reaching this kind of promotional achievement.

The motion picture, called The Amazing Spider-Man, stars relative newcomer – British actor, Andrew Garfield as a young angst-filled Peter Parker coping with adverse events and his newfound super-powered secret identity. The trailer is laced with a seemingly forced artificially dark tone that is more apt for The Dark Knight than for the misfit web-slinger.

Furthermore, as talented as Andrew Garfield is as an actor, he simply does not appear to personify Peter Parker or Spider-Man in the familiar way that comic book fans contemplate the character.

Presenting Spider-Man as a darker and more mysterious hero might be interesting to audiences who are unfamiliar with the wall-crawler, but this interpretation of the character seems less accessible to long-time Spider-Man fans.

Hopefully the film, expected to be in theatres on July 3rd, 2012, will be more impressive and catch some fans in its web…

Spider-Man Revealed… Literally!

Spider-Man

Here are some revealing pictures from the set of the new Spider-man movie currently in production.

Revealing definitely being the correct term I’d say, as the new Spider-man suit certainly looks to leave little to the imagination… I mean if it gets any tighter he’ll burst right out of it, revealing the superhero’s hidden identity! And we wouldn’t want that, would we?

Now, we all know these big action blockbusters need there stuntmen, so we’re left to make up our own minds to whether the tight suited action figure is that of Brit, Andrew Garfield, or it is indeed his stunt double… BUT going by the features you can see and the eyes, my spider-senses tell me this could well be Andrew.

The 27-year-old actor, who replaced Tobey Maguire as the web-slinging hero, recently told Details Magazine that he wanted to feel a lot stronger for the role… And judging by these pictures, we can see he is a man of his word. Fighting crime looks like it agrees with you, Andrew.

It must be a daunting task, following in the footsteps of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-man, but Andrew knows that; “I see it as a massive challenge in many ways to make it authentic,” he said. “To make the character live and breathe in a new way.”

Andrew isn’t the only newbie on set though as the film, directed by Marc Webb, has gone in a totally new direction this time around and see’s a host of new faces including the gorgeous Emma Stone and fellow Brit, Rhys Ifans. It will also star big Hollywood names such as Martin Sheen and Sally Fields.

The film is set for release in July 2012.

Is Andrew Garfield Showing LA’s Paparazzi How To Dance?!

Andrew Garfield

If this picture were anything to go by I’d say Andrew Garfield fancies himself as a contender for next season’s Dancing with the Stars.

Garfield was nominated in the best supporting actor category at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards for starring in The Social Network, losing out to Christian Bale for his role in The Fighter.

However, he seemed content enough doing what looked like the Irish Jig on the pavement outside LA’s prestigious Chateau Marmont.

We’re not sure if the actor had a few too many to drink, but judging from these action shots Garfield was happily dancing the night away, or maybe he was showing the paparazzi a few of his Spider-man moves… Or perhaps the star just simply slipped over in the street…

Yeah, I reckon it was probably more likely to be that… And they say the camera never lies!

Andrew Garfield Kisses Co-star Emma Stone Spider-Man Style!

Spider-Man fans can finally get a glimpse of Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Peter Parker after the Brit actor was recently spotted filming a scene for the upcoming super-hero flick in Los Angeles alongside co-star Emma Stone (star of the recent hit film Easy A.) Stone plays Parker’s love interest Gwen Stacey in the web-slinger feature. The young actors were spied filming a romantic scene at what appears to be a high school setting that ends with a kiss between the two rising stars.

Regarding the interaction and possible attraction between the two actors, the director of the film Marc Webb said: “The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice [to play the female love interest.]”

The film’s cast also includes Welsh actor Rhys Ifans, best known for playing Hugh Grant’s sidekick Spike in Notting Hill, who is rumoured to play Spider-Man’s enemy The Lizard. Actor Martin Sheen will appear as Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben, actress Sally Field will personify Aunt May, and comedian Denis Leary will portray Gwen Stacey’s father.

As much as the idea of a Brit actor playing Spider-Man and his alter ego Peter Parker seems unsuitable, no matter how talented Andrew is, the “stunning chemistry,” as described by Marc Webb, between Andrew and Emma might be reason enough to see this film. For the sake of the Spider-Man movie franchise, I certainly hope so!

Spider-Man’s Andrew Garfield to Face Welsh Actor Rhys Ifans!

Sony Pictures recently announced that Welsh actor Rhys Ifans has been cast as the villain in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot movie. Ifans joins the growing cast, which includes Brit Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) as the heroic web-slinger, and American actress Emma Stone (Easy A) as love interest Gwen Stacy. Sony also stated that the filmmakers prefer not to reveal which character Ifans will be playing.

Ifans is best known for portraying the misfit character Spike in Notting Hill alongside Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. He was also recently featured in Nanny Mcphee Returns starring Emma Thompson and can be seen in the highly anticipated Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The revamped Spider-Man flick is expected to sling into theaters in July of 2012.

Although we do not know exactly which character Ifans will be playing, it is easier to imagine him personifying an evil super-villain than it is to envision Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Besides, if we must have a British Peter Parker, I reckon we might as well have a Welsh enemy for him to battle against.

Andrew Garfield, The Social Climber!

Posted on October 2nd, 2010 at 11:56 am by

The film The Social Network, written by Aaron Sorkin (Charlie Wilson’s War) and directed by David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), premiered in North American theaters this weekend and while box office tickets sales have not been tallied yet, the critical darling is well on its way to becoming a hit with audiences. As The Social Network climbs to the top, one of the film’s stars, Brit actor Andrew Garfield, is climbing right along with it. In addition to starring in the Facebook drama, Garfield can also currently be seen in another major film, Never Let Me Go, with Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan.

Had Garfield’s parents known their son would become a big Hollywood celebrity, they might not have moved him from Los Angeles to Surrey, England when he was three years old. Despite the move, Garfield has managed to make his way back to Hollywood and shine. Growing up outside of the entertainment industry might have been what actually kept the actor grounded and on the path to success.

I love working,” the actor said to The Los Angeles Times, “so I’m taking one day at a time and making sure I keep going back to London to see my school friends and my family, so they can make sure I don’t turn into an arse. They can make sure I can stay grounded,” he said, laughing. He added: “I’m going to focus on what I want to focus on, which is doing the work and getting lost in this world.

Fincher, who directed Garfield in the film about the origins of Facebook, described his first impression of the rising star when he said: “I met with him and thought, ‘He’s great, he’s obviously a very skilled actor and kind of an amazing presence.‘” Regarding Garfield’s talent, Fincher stated: “He has such incredible emotional access to his kind of core humanity[...]”

I think most people will agree that Garfield has an extraordinary ability to exhibit an emotionally captivating performance on screen and did just that in the role of Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network. Next, Garfied will be going from social climber to wall-crawler as the title character in the upcoming Spider-Man movie. I still have doubts about the talented actor effectively personifying the super-hero, but I will try to give him the benefit of the doubt.

British Actresses Compete for Spider-Man Lead Role!

Posted on August 26th, 2010 at 6:01 pm by

Now that British actor Andrew Garfield has been established as the next to play Spider-Man/Peter Parker in Sony Picture’s upcoming retelling of the wall-crawler saga, the studio is on the hunt to cast Spidey’s leading lady, the role of Mary Jane Watson. Reportedly, Imogen Poots (pictured left), who was featured in V for Vendetta; Lily Collins (pictured middle) from The Blind Side (and Phil Collins’s daughter); and Ophelia Lovibond (pictured right)who starred in the UK film Nowhere Boy; are all in the running to play the red-headed beauty. Coincidentally, or maybe not, all three of these young starlets are British.

However, these three are not the only ones competing for the role, as it appears Julia Roberts’s niece Emma Roberts and Australian actress Teresa Palmer are also being considered, but the Brits certainly seem to have the numbers in their favor.

I say if Peter Parker is going to be portrayed by a Brit, we might as well have a British Mary Jane also.

Unknown Actress Rooney Mara to Play The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!

Posted on August 17th, 2010 at 8:27 am by

After months of rumours and speculation about which actress will play the title character, also known as Lisbeth Salander, in the Hollywood remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the role has finally been assigned to a relatively unknown American actress called Rooney Mara. Reportedly, Mara beat out a number of more established actresses for the part, including Scarlet Johansson, Ellen Page, Natalie Portman, Carey Mulligan, and Emma Watson.

Mara will co-star alongside James Bond thespian Daniel Craig in the film and most likely in two sequels, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. The rising star can next be seen in the film called The Social Network, about the founders of Facebook, along with new Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo begins shooting next month in Sweden and is scheduled to be released in December of 2011.

Congratulations to Rooney for seizing one of the most sought after jobs in Hollywood!
