The Lythgoe ‘Family’ Producers Bring Panto To LA LA Land… “Oh Yes They Are!”

No sooner had Oprah reunited the Von Trapp family on American television earlier in the week, this picture winged its way across my desk and made me giggle… Perfect! I thought… The Lythgoe’s could be described as the Von Trapp family ‘producers’. Though I’m sure Nigel Lythgoe can still tap his toe and hum a tune, producing seems to be more his forte these days.
Step forward Nigel’s very talented son, Kris Lythgoe (pictured top center). Kris, already an accomplished producer himself, working on shows such as So You Think You Can Dance and so on, has been very clever in spotting a gap in the market here in the land showbiz.
Young Lythgoe has decided to educate the Americans in the art of Panto, er, that’s Pantomime to you folk who’ve never heard the word. And to help you along here’s the dictionary definition: (pan·to·mime) n. Performing Arts / Theatre) Brit informal short for pantomime [1]). Get it?
It so happens that Kris, together with his mother Bonnie (pictured top right) have taken on the task of bringing the very British ‘pan·to·mime’ to California’s sunny shores.
Their first production is Cinderella, starring a quality cast of actors such as Harry Potter star Freddie Stroma as Prince Charming. Stroma can be seen playing Cormac McLaggen in the upcoming Potter installment – The Half Blood Prince. Other players include Jerry Mathers from Leave it to Beaver, Broadway sensation Jennifer Leigh Warren as The Fairy Godmother, with newcomer Veronica Dunne in the title role.
Of course the family appear to have pulled in a few favors too, by getting Dancing With The Stars ‘dancer’ Mark Ballas to choreograph the whole thing, with Bonnie [Lythgoe] directing. What a mix!
They’ve even named the cross-dressing ‘ugly sisters’ after American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell. Kris told Page Six: “I’ve deliberately spelled the sisters’ names differently. I hope Simon and Ryan get the joke.”
The curtain goes up at the El Portal Theatre November 27th, and runs till December 19th. Tickets are selling fast, so I’d order them pronto as this show promises to be one big ‘camp’ affair! ”Oh yes it will!”

Mariah Cares about being American Idol Judge!

Mariah Carey’s husband Nick Cannon has recently revealed that the world famous singer would very much like to be one of the new judges on American Idol.
The so-called Mr. Mariah Carey said: “You know what? She talks about it. She says, ‘I would love to do that.’ She is one of the greatest singers of our time; she would be great. I don’t know if she has enough time, though, but if they could work with her schedule, I know she would love to do ‘Idol’”
Cannon, who hosts America’s Got Talent alongside Brit judges Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne, might be able to pull some strings for Carey due to the fact that his boss is former influential American Idol judge Simon Cowell, who continues as executive producer of AGT.
To The Hollywood Reporter, Cannon said: “Simon Cowell was the anchor of the show. And when he stepped out, it’s like, now what? But as long as Ryan Seacrest and Randy Jackson stick around, I’m watching.”
Considering her reported mental instability, tremendous popularity, and extensive industry experience, I say Mariah is the perfect person to be the new Paula.
Russell Brand Wants Elvis to Officiate Wedding!

Russell Brand just keeps getting more and more classy… er… I mean klassy with a “K.”
The scruffy looking Brit (well, not in this pic) was recently accompanied by his fiancé, singer Katy Perry, to the premiere of his latest film Get Him to the Greek in Las Vegas. The couple, who walked the red carpet, will soon be walking down the aisle together. The question is what kind of wedding is this wacky duo planning?
The two are reportedly still considering Vegas for the big day. Brand joked: “Now we’re talking, the drive-thru chapel. A Vegas wedding, married by Elvis Presley, or even better, Aaron Presley in his unnourished form.” Huh? While you’re at it Russell, why not have a Michael Jackson impersonator as your ring bearer?
As for Perry, she denies the claim made by friend Rihanna that the wedding is to take place in India. Speaking with Ryan Seacrest on his radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Perry said: “I haven’t told Rihanna where we’re getting married actually. She thought we were getting married in India because we got engaged there.”
The singer added: “I hope it to be in an [exciting] location because I think it’s better to take people out of their comfort zones. I think it’s going to be small for right now because there’s so much biggness going on in our lives. There will be receptions and parties. Everybody knows that I love to throw a good party.”
It sounds like Katy’s ideas are a little different from Russell’s and, due to his recent bridezilla-like behavior, this could cause some contentious wedding planning between the two. Russ might be singing The Doghouse Rock… if you catch my drift.
Perry’s Pal Rihanna Blabs Secret Wedding Plans!

Nice to know Katy Perry’s best pal, singer Rihanna can keep a secret – NOT!
So when the ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer asked her mate Rih’ to help organize her and Russell’s big day, I’m pretty sure she was meant to keep schtum… So much for keeping a secret a under your hat, or Rihanna’s case – Umbrella!
Instead, what does Rihanna go and do? She blabbed some of the top secret details live on US radio… How verrry dare she!
While being interviewed by DJ Ryan Seacrest yesterday, Rihanna said: “I have to come up with something cool because she is getting married in India so I’m like, ‘OK, now what do I do to match that?’
“That’s at the end of the year so we’ve got some time to plan.”
About planning the ‘do’, the singer then told that Katy and Russell [Brand] would be getting married in Jaipur, where Russell proposed on New Year’s Eve. Onion Bhaji’s and poppadoms all round!
Thanks for letting us in on that one Rihanna! However, I am pretty sure that little bit of leaked information has knocked quite a few thousand quid off Russell and Katy’s OK Magazine buy up… Um, that’s if the scruffy couple were indeed intent on even doing a deal. Ahem!
American Idol’s Talent’s Got Britain’s X-Factor…

Just as I reported, um… a while back… Simon Cowell is definitely going to be bringing X-Factor to the US in 2011, which means he will almost certainly be saying ta-ta to his judging spot on American Idol after this season.
Now I’m hearing Simon has been negotiating with Fox execs this week, who are desperate to keep him on Idol, but apparently Simon has already made up his mind to leave and concentrate on X-Factor USA. If any of these execs actually watch the show, they’ll know that Simon’s decisions are usually final!
Cowell produces and judges X-Factor in the UK whereas on Idol he’s simply a judge. Bringing X-Factor over will mean more control (and more money) for the sharp-tongued mogul.
And while Fox are trying to assure audiences that Idol will go on without Simon, everyone knows that Simon is Idol and it wouldn’t be the same without him. Ellen’s going to have to make a big impression to convince me that it will still work if Simon goes.
Luckily, we’ll still be able to get our Cowell fix when X-Factor starts in autumn 2011!

On Thursday night the question on host Ryan Seacrest’s mind (and mine actually) was what on earth was up with judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul? The pair are well known for their past “on and off” screen scraps, but the other night we were seeing a very different story… Perhaps…?
When Seacrest addressed the judges’ odd behavior during the previous night’s show, pointing out the fact that Simon and fellow Idol judge Paula “couldn’t keep their hands off each other,” newly single Simon who recently split with Extra’s Terri Seymour completely surprised the audience with a two word answer…
