Liam Neeson Condemns UK Film Council Abolishment!
Posted on July 29th, 2010 at 1:24 pm by
At the recent London premiere of his new film, The A-Team, actor Liam Neeson, who plays the lead role of Hannibal in the action flick, voiced his disapproval of the controversial decision to close the UK Film Council made by the UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Regarding the abolishment, Neeson said: “Big mistake, big mistake, big big mistake. It’s a blow, it’s what it is. I mean people need entertainment. We’re living in hard, difficult times and people want to go out and spend two hours in the cinema, daydream a bit. I’m really disappointed in the government to hear that.”
The official decision to eliminate the Film Council was made public the day before The A-Team premiered in the UK. The partially publicly funded organisation was created in 2000 to develop and fund the UK film industry. The Film Council has helped fund more than 900 movies since it was established ten years ago.
Undoubtedly, many people (including myself) maintain the Irish actor’s condemnation and disappointment. If only the A-Team existed in real life, we could send them in to correct this “big mistake.”
