Knightley and Mulligan Join Forces to Never Let Me Go!

The trailer for an upcoming Brit film called Never Let Me Go was recently released and it looks, to say the least, very intriguing.

Two of our most cherished Brit actresses, Keira Knightley (The Duchess) and Carey Mulligan (An Education), will share the silver screen in the dramatic thriller. The cast also features English actors Andrew Garfield, Domhnall Gleeson, and Sally Hawkins. Garfield, along with Mulligan, was featured on the telly series Doctor Who; Gleeson is to play Bill Weaseley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; and Sally Hawkins previously worked with Mulligan in An Education. Hawkins also played the lead character of Poppy in the successful independent film Happy-Go-Lucky (one of my personal favorites.)

Never Let Me Go is based on an award-winning novel of the same name that was written by Japanese-born British author Kazuo Ishiguro. The movie was primarily filmed in the countryside of Norfolk County, England and tells the story of three friends, Kathy (Mulligan), Ruth (Knightley), and Tommy (Garfield), who reunite years after attending a strange English boarding school together and proceed to uncover the dark mysteries of their shared past. The film is slated to be released at the end of 2010 and will be distributed in the US by Fox Searchlight Pictures.

I am curious to see just how interested American audiences will be in this very British artistic-looking sci-fi/drama/thriller film… only time will tell…

Colin Farrell Goes Broke!

…or at least he pretends to.

Colin Farrell fans can add another movie to their must-see lists, as the Irish actor has just been cast in the film Cosmopolis, based on the novel of the same name written by Don DeLillo.

Farrell will star opposite French actress Marion Cotillard. Attached to direct is David Cronenberg, who also wrote the screenplay.

Cosmopolis tells the story of young multi-billionaire asset manager Eric Packer (Farrell) who loses all of his money in one day. Cotillard will portray the wife of the finance mogul. Principal photography is scheduled to take place next spring in Toronto and NYC.

I’m not certain the star of Daredevil, S.W.A.T., and Miami Vice is the best choice to play this cosmopolitan character; however, I reckon all we can do is hope for the best from Colin and the gang.

The 34 year old can next be seen later this year alongside Keira Knightley in the film London Boulevard, currently wrapping in the U.K. capital city. In this flick Farrell plays a convicted criminal. No offense Colin, but your London Boulevard role sounds like a perfect fit for you.

Keira Knightley Works on Indy Film for Free!

That’s what we like to see, true talent suffering for their art!

Oscar-nominated actress Keira Knightley is rumored to receive around five million dollars a movie, but recently she donated her talents for free.

In Maze, an independent movie shot last year, Knightley plays an Elizabethan courtier who is unsuccessfully reunited with her lover when the couple gets trapped inside an unwieldy maze.

Thanks to opportune circumstances, such as Knightley waiving her usual fee, the film was reportedly made with a tiny budget of $23,000. Sacrificing the typical feature film perks, such as having her own private dressing room can’t have been easy, as Maze was shot with a true low-budget approach, so um no trailer!

In an interview with British newspaper The Independent, Knightley explained why she decided to work for free on such an obscure project when she said: “I loved the idea of doing something that was purely creative, weird and wonderful and not a commercial venture.”

The short, directed by Stuart Pearson Wright, will premier next month at the Riflemaker gallery in London alongside Wright’s paintings.

It’s refreshing to see people value art for art’s sake and support pure creativity instead of just doing it for the money. Great choice Keira!

Newcomer Atwell Lands Female Lead in Captain America

Another British starlet is born…  Actress Hayley Atwell has landed the lead role of Peggy Carter, the love interest of Captain America opposite actor, Chris Evans.

The news comes after Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures conducted an extensive casting search to fill the role.

Atwell, somewhat of an unknown is rumored to have clinched the coveted part over fellow Brit actresses Keira Knightley and Emily Blunt after a recent screen test in London.

While she might not be a household name (yet!), Atwell has been showing off her acting chops in various BBC productions for years. Atwell even worked alongside Knightley in BBC Films’ The Duchess.

Captain America is scheduled to film in England this summer.

Keira’s Ship Sails As Penelope Cruises With Pirates!

The ‘Duchess’ of Hollywood Keira Knightley says ‘seeya me hearties!’ to Pirates of the Caribbean!

Knightley who shot to fame in 2003 playing Elizabeth Swan in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, has confirmed that she will NOT be reprising her role in the fourth Pirates flick.

Knightley said: “I said when I finished the trilogy that that was going to be it — I had a wonderful time on it and I met some extraordinary people but you know, I think, for me three is enough, definitely,”
