Mel B told my pal Dan Wooton: “I was in the studio last week – I’ve only done a handful of tracks,”

She said: “I’m waiting to find a sound that I’m happy with but I’m writing all my own stuff. I’ve got a lot going on this year but I’m making time to be in the studio. I was in there till five in the morning. I always find at night, when you’ve put the kids to bed, you can get into your zone.”

Mel, who will be at Sir Elton John’s star studded Oscar bash tonight (as will I), added: “To do an album takes time and energy. You can’t have distractions going on.”

Scary also made clear it’s full steam ahead for the Spice Girls musical, currently being written by Mamma Mia mastermind Judy Craymer.

The last time I saw Mel we were hanging out together at Hyde Club in Hollywood, where I was creating a distraction for her so that she could have a sneaky cigarette behind hubby Stephen Belafonte‘s back.

Let’s hope Mel’s finally packed in her ciggy habit as she’ll need to save that voice for song!
