Becks Isn’t Leaving the Galaxy

David Beckham has revealed that he will see out the rest of his footy contract at LA Galaxy because he is happy at the club.

He told David Letterman last night: ‘I will be playing for the Galaxy for the rest of the time now, for the rest of my contract. I’ve always honoured my contracts and I’ll do that with the Galaxy. After that we’ll see what happens, but I’m very happy there.’

The 34-year-old, who has a torn Achilles tendon, hobbled onto the show and talked about his injury, his contract in LA and how he hopes to go to the World Cup in South Africa as a spectator.

Becks sustained his injury while playing on loan for AC Milan and admitted that Galaxy was annoyed about it, but said it was ‘one of those things’.

And he thinks the World Cup will be a roaring success. Personally I hope David does get to go and support the England squad. With the WAGS rumoured to be banned because they’re a distraction someone’s got to up the glamour ante in South Africa. David, it’s over to you!

Jamie’s Stuck Between A Rock And A Fat Place!

Poor Jamie Oliver got shot down by David Letterman last night when he appeared on the show to promote Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

The celeb chef’s show sees him traveling to Huntington, West Virginia (AKA the most unhealthy city in America) to try and educate the locals about their eating habits, in the same way he did for Brits.

But – and no offence to my American friends – it turns out that the stubborn locals don’t really care for his ideas about extending their lives and improving the health of their families. At one point in the show Jamie ends up crying because people don’t want to do anything about their terrible diets. Pizza for breakfast anyone??

But you’d have thought David Letterman would be on board, and although Dave praised Jamie’s cause in theory, he said the crusade was doomed to failure because of there being so many fast food chains in the US.

He said: ‘As long as we are trying to feed this many people we are going to continue to eat bad food. And you think McDonald’s is going to close down? No, they’re not going to close down.’

Then, even more controversially, he claimed that Jamie would never get people to eat more healthily and that the only way to lose weight was by using diet pills.

‘After five or six, ten or 20 years of trying to lose weight there is nothing in this culture you can do to lose weight short of medication,’ he said.

I’m totally floored. He’s basically saying there’s no point in even trying to get people to eat better food, and that American is a culture of fast food that will never change.

Ignorance is bliss, eh? And morbidly obese too, most likely.

Stop Press: Emma Watson Wears Knickers!

These days we are more used to seeing starlets falling out of cars sans underwear but class act Emma Watson wasn’t left red-faced (or red-cheeked) when she had a wardrobe malfunction on Tuesday.

Talking on the David Letterman show last night Emma was confronted with a picture of her adjusting the vintage Ossie Clark dress she wore to the London premiere for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince…

In the shot she reveals a little more than she intended and her knickers are clearly on display.

But the 19-year-old beauty laughed off her ‘wardrobe malfunction’, saying ‘At least I’m wearing underwear!‘ and blamed the mistake on her youth. ‘I’m still learning, I’m still learning!‘ she exclaimed while burying her head in her hands in embarrassment. Ah, how sweet…

Emma’s got an amazing sense of style and it’s not often we read about a child star who has manners, a sense of humour and the sense to know that going out in public without underwear is just asking for trouble. A perfect ambassador for the British abroad I think… Lily Allen take note!
