She rocketed to stardom on Britain’s Got Talent singing I Dreamed A Dream back in 2009, and now Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle has revealed why her fame was initially very hard for her to understand and comprehend.

The 52-year-old revealed last weekend that she’s been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a developmental disorder that is a form of autism, it is characterized by poor social skills, physical clumsiness, and narrowly focused interests, it mainly affects social interaction and communication skills according to the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

She said she’s always known she was “different” even from a young age when other school kids called her “simple Susan.”

“I was told I had brain damage. I always knew it was an unfair label,” she said. “Now I have a clearer understanding of what’s wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself.”

The diagnosis came about a year ago and she said helps explain why she also suffered from anxiety around strangers and struggled with eye contact while growing up.

SuBo noted “I have communicative difficulties, which leads to a lot of frustration. If people were a bit more patient it would help.”

“I am not strong on my own. When I have the support of people around me I am fine,” she said.

Boyle recently released her fifth studio album, a collection of Christmas recordings.

Her debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream,” sold more than 8 million copies around the world, making it the most popular album of 2009.

SuBo we love you…such an amazing woman!
