2010 Emmy Nominations Announced!

Joel McHale (Community) and Sophia Vergara (Modern Family) recently announced the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards nominations on behalf of the The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles. Glee and Modern Family received the most nominations, while 30 Rock, Breaking Bad, LOST, and Mad Men were also abundantly recognized. Here are some of the highlights…
Up for Outstanding Comedy Series are 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Glee, Modern Family, Nurse Jackie, and The Office. Competing for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series are Alex Baldwin (30 Rock); Steve Carell (The Office); Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm); Matthew Morrison (Glee); Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory); and Tony Shaloub (Monk). In the running for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series are Aussie actress Toni Collette (United States of Tara); Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie); Tina Fey (30 Rock); Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine); Lea Michele (Glee); and Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation).
Nominated for Outstanding Drama Series are Breaking Bad, Dexter, The Good Wife, LOST, Mad Men, and True Blood. Considered for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series are Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights); Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad); Matthew Fox (LOST); Michael C. Hall (Dexter); Jon Hamm (Mad Men); and British actor Hugh Laurie (House). Battling for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series are Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights); Glenn Close (Damages); Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit); January Jones (Mad Men); Julianna Marguiles (The Good Wife); and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer).
Contending for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie are Jeff Bridges as Jon Katz in A Dog Year (HBO); English actor Sir Ian McKellan as Two in The Prisoner (AMC); Al Pacino as Dr. Jack Kevorkian in You Don’t Know Jack (HBO); Dennis Quaid as Bill Clinton in The Special Relationship (HBO); and Welsh actor Michael Sheen as Tony Blair in The Special Relationship (HBO).
Suggested for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie are Joan Allen as Georgia O’Keeffe in Georgia O’Keeffe (Lifetime/Sony Pictures); Claire Danes as Temple Grandin in Temple Grandin (HBO); Hope Davis as Hilary Clinton in The Special Relationship (HBO); Dame Judi Dench as Miss Matty in Return to Cranford (Masterpiece BBC/PBS); and British legend Maggie Smith as Mary Gilbert in Capturing Mary (BBC/HBO).
The upcoming Emmy Awards ceremony will be hosted by comedian Jimmy Fallon and broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, August 29, 2010 on NBC.
