‘Pink Powered’ DeGeneres To Change The Face Of Idol?

EllenDGThe news that comedian Ellen DeGeneres is replacing Paula Abdul may not have pleased the majority of American Idol fans, however I think Simon Cowell made a pretty smart move if you ask me.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Paula on Idol, those glassy eyes and slurred words of support to its contestants was most entertaining, but if the rumors were true then sadly too many egos clashed behind the scenes leaving Abdul to stupidly Twitter herself out of a deal, and a big one at that!

And what appeared to be a display of stubborn behavior on Paula’s part, the Idol judge stuck her heels in deep and refused to budge unless ‘they’ gave her what SHE wanted… Clearly they didn’t!

Also, if reports are true then [allegedly] Victoria Beckham pulled out all the stops to land the job as Paula’s replacement, but it seems her efforts on the show weren’t nearly enough to win her the top position, even though Posh is (if you can call it that) a singer!

Step forward Emmy Award-winning talk show host – DeGeneres, with her warm charm and friendly nature (though behind the scenes I’m told it’s a different tale) did the trick and yesterday on her afternoon chat show ‘Ellen’ she excitedly announced herself as Paula’s successor…

DeGeneres described herself as a longtime fan of the show. She said, “So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text my vote”

In a statement producers at Fox said: “As the new judge, Ellen will offer her own unique perspective to the contestants throughout the competition.”

Personally, I’m looking forward to watching Ellen as an Idol panelist, the ‘pink-powered-presenter’ is sure to bring an edginess to something that has become a bit too jazz-hands for my liking and dare I say sometimes utterly boring – I mean seriously who is that Kara DioGuardi woman, get rid of her!

What with a Black American doing a fine job running the US and now a Lesbian on the panel of ‘AI’, what more could we want? If this gig is a success for her, then DeGeneres could well end up changing the face of TV in this country all together, in my opinion there aren’t enough ‘out’ gays on primetime.

And that was simply what I meant by a ‘smart move’ by Simon Cowell, he always seems to back the winners, even if he often pretends not to… Love it!
