The words ‘minted moguls’ sprang to mind this morning when I heard that two of the UK’s savviest businessmen are joining forces to create a super-empire that could very well rival the likes of Disney.
Yep, Simon Cowell is going into business with retail bigwig (and pal of some model called Kate Moss) Phillip Green to create a TV production, talent management and merchandising company based in Los Angeles and London. Because you know, neither of them have enough on their plates already…
Phil’s already made Topshop into an international superbrand and Si’s practically running primetime TV in both countries so I’m sure there’ll be a bob or two in it for them as well as some much-needed jobs up for grabs!
It’s thought Simon, who’s current net worth is said to be around US$200 Million (£112 Million) will present and produce the shows made by the firm, while Daddy ‘Greenbacks’ who incidentally is the UK’s ninth richest person, will oversee finance and strategy and the company’s merchandising.
My well-placed ‘LA LA’ in London tells me Simon is secretly “thrilled” by the deal, and who wouldn’t be… The new company will also work alongside Cowell’s production company Syco, which co-produces X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.
Those two Brit’s have certainly got Talent, oh and loadsamoney… Ahem, clearly!
